The South Florida Symphony Orchestra led by musical director Sebrina Maria Alfonso presents “Beethoven” in celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The event will feature Beethoven: Symphony No 9 featuring renowned soloists, a full choir, and the famous “Ode to Joy” finale, and Schumann: Piano Concerto in A minor featuring Svetlana Smolina, Piano. The City of Oakland Park presents “Soul Fest” from 6-10pm at Jaco Pastorious Park (4000 N Dixie Hwy). This FREE event will feature music, dancing, kids activities, food and drink, and live music by the old skool gang (60’s through 90’s top hits of Motown and soul).

SAGE of South Florida presents “From the Broadway Stage to the Silver Screen”: at 2pm in the Main Hall at the Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors. Featuring Michael Vita, with Roger Rundle at the piano and videos by Gene Majka. Many of the Broadway Musicals that Michael appeared in were either based on movies from the Silver Screen or became movies on the Silver Screen. Among them being; Gower Champion’s “Bye, Bye Birdie” and “42nd Street” – Bob Fosse’s “Sweet Charity” and “Chicago” – Michael Bennett’s “Promises, Promises” and “Ballroom” and George Abbott’s “On Your Toes.” Michael will give some insight as to how they became Broadway productions along with a little bit of backstage stories.
