In Episode 6 of season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, it was the infamous Snatch Game. Miss Vanjie made an appearance in the work room and back stage during uncut. The special guest judges this week were Jonathan Bennett and Daniel Franzese. The top 3 queens are: Sherry Pie, Jackie Cox and the winner Gigi Goode who gets $5,000. The bottom two queens are Brita and Aiden Zhane with Aiden sashaying away. It was a pleasure to sit down with Aiden for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
Q: At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name?
I was about 18 or 19 the first time I had exposure to drag and that was watching season 3 of Drag Race. I wanted my drag name to fit my vibe. My first name starts with A and my last name starts with Z, so it encompasses the whole alphabet, and both names could be males or female.
Q: How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul’s Drag Race? How did it feel when you found out you got chosen?
I auditioned 3 times: season 8, 9, and then again 12. It felt amazing when I got the call and I remember screaming at the top of my lungs.
Q: Tell us about your RuPaul’s Drag Race experience?
My experience on the show as a whole was definitely high stressed and its hard work. You can try to mentally prepare yourself but until you experience it first-hand you have no idea. I feel like I came out the other end stronger, and I left my mark.
- Is there something you wish you did different and/or is there a certain look you wish we could have all seen?
We all want to be the winner, so naturally watching the show back I wish I had changed things, but overall I feel like I did what I went there to do.
- A few of the girls seemed to have been picking on you during filming, have you all made up?
Since the show all of us have been in a group chat, and we are all friends now and we all talk all the time.
Q: What’s your marital status?
Single, and I aint looking for a guy. I am more than happy to be focusing on my drag at the moment.
Q: Who do you want to win?
I wouldn’t be able to choose anyone. This season was so diverse, and talented, and fresh. I honestly feel anyone can be suited to take the crown.
Q: What’s ahead for Aiden?
Going forward I want to do more drag and do what I love doing. I would also love to do drag horror films.
