The Seth Concert Series feature Adam Pascal

Producer Mark Cortale has announced that Adam Pascal, who had previously been slated for the November lineup, has been rescheduled to December 20 as part of The Seth Concert Series, the weekly virtual series based on Seth Rudetsky’s international Broadway series that began at The Art House in Provincetown ten years ago.
Hosted by beloved musical director and Sirius XM Star Seth Rudetsky, the first event took place on Sunday, May 31 and featured Tony Award-winning actress Kelli O’Hara. The series has since featured intimate conversations and incredible musical moments with Audra McDonald, Jeremy Jordan, Jessie Mueller, Lea Salonga, Megan Hilty, Norm Lewis, Cheyenne Jackson, Liz Callaway, Stephanie J. Adam Pascal, is a Tony-nominee and Obie and Theatre World Award winning star, and has created some of the most memorable roles in recent Broadway history. He shot to stardom for originating the role of Roger in the Broadway blockbuster Rent, as well as the London production, and starred in the film version. He also originated the role of Radames in Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, and was featured as the Emcee in the critically acclaimed revival of Cabaret directed by Sam Mendes. He has recently starred on Broadway in Memphis, Chicago and the original cast of Disaster! (co-written by Seth Rudetsky!) Other of his recent performances include the role of Freddie in Chess at the Royal Albert Hall in London, alongside both Idina Menzel and Josh Groban. This performance was recorded for PBS’ Great Performances series and has been released on DVD. He also reprised his starring role in the 2009 Broadway Tour of Rent. His film work, in addition to the screen version of Rent, includes SLC Punk!, School of Rock and the movie musical Temptation. He has also released two solo rock albums, “Model Prisoner” and “Civilian” for Sh-K-Boom Records. Adam was seen recently as William Shakespeare in the 2017 National Tour of the Tony Award-winning musical comedy Something Rotten! and starred most recently as Edward in the new musical Pretty Woman on Broadway.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Adam, for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
At what age did you begin performing, and how did it happen?
I started performing around 12 or 13 and it was in rock bands. I discovered I could sing, and I sung in rock bands until after I graduated college. My whole focus was playing in bands.
What was your first professional/paid role?
Believe it or not, it was “Rent.”
How did you get cast in “Rent” and did the cast know how special the show was from the beginning?
I auditioned. Idina and I grew up together—she lived down the block from me in Long Island. She had already gotten cast and she called me and told me that they were looking for the role of Roger. She thought I would be perfect for the role and asked me to go in and audition. It seemed like something different to try, and I had just left my band. I auditioned and got cast.
From the reactions we were getting form rehearsals we did know very quickly that “Rent” was something very special. That didn’t mean it would translate into success, but luckily it did.
I saw you four years ago in the touring company of “Something Rotten” playing Shakespeare. Was that as fun to play as it looked?
Yes it was. I had the most amazing time in that show. That’s why we all stayed in it so long, we were having the best time working with each other!
What has been your favorite role to play?
I always tend to say the last one I did, but my favorite role is the Emcee in “Cabaret,” which I starred in at Studio 54. It came at a point in my career where I needed to make some decisions and it solidified my love of theater and I truly adore everything about that show.
What is your fantasy role?
I would love to play Jean Val Jean in “Les Misérables.”
Tell us something we would be surprised to know about you?
That I am extremely domestic. I love to cook, clean and fold laundry.

Frustrated, loving and driven!
What should our readers expect from your Virtual Broadway Series with Seth Rudetsky?
Audiences can expect songs from many of the shows I have been in, and songs from some shows I’d like to be in. Some funny banter and stories as Seth and I have been friends for 20 years. And as it always is with Seth, there are always a surprise or two and we have been known to try something unrehearsed if it comes up in conversation.
